The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
