A person who spiked sweets with sedative and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males aged between nine and ten.
The defendant was arrested after eight youngsters and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
The man played a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor stated, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC stated materials including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were located, and his stepson notified the police about his concerns.
She said the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"The police had not responded by that point," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement again.
She explained Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
